Cricketers, Sir's and more

So as usual its been a busy time at the Belmont, just last night we entertained Leicester Business Voice, a local networking group who work to voice current issues affecting businesses in Leicester to the city council. Their event, Building a team for business, involved Philip Hodson, Paul Nixon and England cricketer Matthew Hoggard.
They enjoyed some delicious canapes prepared by our head Chef Alex ballard

Indeed Mathew Hoggard is not the only well known face we've had at the Belmont recently, last week it was our pleasure and privilage to host the retirement dinner of Sir Alec Jeffreys -The pioneer of DNA profiling- Sir Alec had guests fly in from Hong Kong and New York to congratulate him on an outstanding career, and to wish him all the very best for a long and happy retirement.
He is pictured below with Duty Manager Michael Butler

We've also been very lucky to see recent re-surfacing works taking place on the New Walk.
This outstanding attribute to Leicester, steeped in history, runs between the old leicester racecourse now Victoria Park right down past the Belmont & New walk Museum into the heart of the city. The resurfacing is ensuring the New Walk stays looking magnifficent!
We recently held our Wedding showcase event at the hotel, with a range of preferred suppliers exhibiting, and a chance for curious brides & grroms to get a feel of what the hotel is like when set up for wedding events, we're very pleased to say we've had several bookings and 2013 looks like a great year for weddings at the Belmont

Wonderful wedding!

On the 7th July 2012 Justin & Darren held their civil partnership ceremony & wedding reception in our gorgeous Rose room. They had a clear vision of how they wanted their day to go and Wedding Co-ordinator Caroline was on hand to make sure it became a reality.

After the civil ceremony the Rose room was quickly turned around as guests went and had photographs taken in the hotel and down leafy New Walk.

The Rose room looked great with chair covers provided by local supplier Sky’s the Limit of Oadby and flower pedestals in blue, orange and purple provided by Penney’s florist of Wigston.

Darren & Justin’s style is unique and to coincide with this they decided to name their tables after animals. For each one chosen a donation was made to the WWF in aid of that animal, and in return a cuddly toy and information pack was placed on each table.

Once guests had been seated at their tables, the Wedding Breakfast was served, the chosen menu included the following dishes:

Confit tomato & mozzarella tart, basil & green olive tapenade (v)
Main Course

Roast rump of beef, Yorkshire pudding, red wine & shallot sauce
Served with gratin potatoes & seasonal vegetables

Chocolate tart, maple & walnut ice-cream

Justin & Darren not only had a beautiful 3 tiered wedding cake but also individual cupcakes for each guest with the relevant animal decorated on top, made by the very talented Alison at Candy Queen. These were served with coffee as speeches were made.
Later on the Rose room was given a quick freshen-up and the large dance floor was uncovered for their evening reception, which went on well past mid-night with great tunes from the hotels resident DJ from Cream Entertainments.

The couple were wonderful to work with and we wish them all the best for the future!

Belmont News

Well it's been a while since we gave you an update about things here at the hotel, we're pleased to say that the fears about the worst drought on record have been washed away, literally! Here's a clip of our driveway during the recent flash floods.

We're also a bit out of sync with the summer as we held our Christmas brochure launch, which included Turkey & trimmings canapes...

and the red carpet treatment for our guests, welcomed by our very stylish team!

If you'd like to know more about a Hollywood Christmas party with us you can download the brochure, or call 0116 252 9613 and speak to Caroline or Cat

We've also had some (timely!) maintenance to one of our roofs, so Julian and team were busy making sure we were watertight! Here's a shot of the boys at work

Whats coming up? Well we're busy with Graduation during July (Well done to students from both Leicester & De Montfort Universities!). Our operations manager James is cycling 300 miles for Action Medical Research (From London to Paris in just 3 days!) and Cat & Alison from our events team are taking part in the Walk for Life in aid of Cancer Research - So lots of good stuff!
